Environmental, heritage, and cultural outreach and dissemination plays a fundamental role in the preservation of natural environments and in raising societal awareness about the importance of protecting the historical legacy and biodiversity of a territory.

In the case of the Porcía Valley, located in the western part of Asturias, this work takes on special relevance due to the natural and cultural heritage richness it holds. The organisation of talks, colloquiums, conferences, and fairs becomes a key tool for publicizing the activities of our non-profit association that works for the conservation of this unique environment, strengthening the bond between the community and its territory.

Education as a driver of change

Conferences and talks allow experts in various disciplines to share knowledge about the flora, fauna, history, archaeology, and culture of the Porcía Valley. These activities create a learning space for the community, providing key information about the environmental and demographic challenges facing the region and possible solutions. The learning and use of new technologies in a Smart Countryside will undoubtedly help to solve some of the problems more easily as well as retain highly specialized young people.

In Fontes del Porcía, we have no doubt that in many cases, it will be the grandchildren who will manage to make their parents or grandparents make the most appropriate decisions regarding the future of the valley.

The value of cultural and natural heritage

The Porcía Valley stands out not only for its biodiversity but also for its rich heritage. In this sense, the colloquiums and meetings allow for the enhancement of traditions, customs, and historical constructions that are part of the area’s identity. Spreading knowledge about both tangible and intangible heritage contributes to strengthening the sense of belonging among the inhabitants, generating an active commitment to the protection and recovery of these elements.

At Fontes del Porcía, we believe that the best example is the effort made, which is why we will organize physical and social activities such as clearing paths or opening new routes for the enjoyment of the local population and for an off-season tourism that is committed to our values.

Regarding the recovery of buildings of high historical value, we at Fontes del Porcía promote the use of national and European grants and private donations that are significant enough to restore an increasing number of properties and structures that will later be dedicated to activities of high social value.

The importance of fairs and community events

Fairs and other public gatherings are an excellent opportunity to bring the association’s work closer to society as a whole. In these spaces, exhibitions, workshops, and interactive activities can be organized that allow for the active participation of children and adults, not forgetting the elderly. Furthermore, these events help to generate collaboration networks between the association and other groups, facilitating access to new resources and increasing the impact of their initiatives.

Awareness and action

Beyond dissemination, raising awareness is a key objective in the work of the association. It is not enough to inform; it is necessary to awaken the interest and motivation of the community to participate actively in the protection of the Porcía Valley. The celebration of these meetings fosters citizen commitment, encouraging the creation of volunteer initiatives, the adoption of sustainable practices, and the development of collaborative projects that contribute to the well-being of the area.

In short, dissemination through talks, discussions, conferences, and fairs is an indispensable tool to publicize the association’s activities and to strengthen the connection of society with its territory. These initiatives allow for the formation of more informed and committed citizens, capable of participating in the conservation and sustainable development of the Porcía Valley.

Thanks to these efforts, it can be guaranteed that this natural and heritage space remains a benchmark of beauty, history, and biodiversity for present and future generations.
